PD VALIDATION / REPORTS

Testing & reports

PD cable & power testing

We test power paths that include PD cables, varying voltage and load. Starting with Reference Cable A, we also publish measurements of Framework, DAISO and other cables. Recording conditions and test history helps make comparisons meaningful.

We compare measurements with available PD communication records, separating observations, reproduction conditions and untested areas. These records support product understanding and technical discussions with manufacturers.

ChargerLABPOWER-Z AK001 / 1.5 m

This 1.5 m cable displays voltage, current and power while charging. The record covers 29 Fixed 5–48 V power tests and display comparisons at seven video moments.

Median at the receiving test-device input, with 48 V / 5 A settings
47.252V / 236.262W

Display comparison: seven video moments
The cable current display was approximately 7.9–10.4% higher than the ASD test-device display. This example distinguishes completion of power tests from display accuracy.

ZiwuniuCM1 / 1.2 m

This 1.2 m cable has a display unit. The record covers 29 Fixed 5–48 V power tests, a whole-path comparison with Reference A, and display comparisons at seven video moments.

Median at the receiving test-device input, with 48 V / 5 A settings
47.183V / 235.915W

Reports

The first run stopped when the capture instrument’s USB readout stalled, before measurements for the last case. Retesting the final 48V-to-5V return provided successful records for all 29 cases. This is distinct from uninterrupted completion in one run. Differences from Reference Cable A include 2m versus 1m length, contacts, measurement time and control paths; they do not establish isolated cable resistance or superiority.

At 5A, voltage droop was approximately 207–210mV greater than the reference record. This includes source, contact, measurement-path and separate-time effects; it is not converted to isolated cable resistance or a standards-compliance judgment. USB data transfer was not tested, so this is not a measurement of actual data speed.

48V × 5A = 240W is a nominal setpoint. Measurements are taken at the load side of a path including the cable, connectors and PD recording instrument; they do not represent isolated cable resistance or loss. Each PASS applies to the screening criteria stated in the report. USB data performance, thermal behavior, insulation, durability, certification, all plug orientations and 230Vac were outside these cable tests.

One run per AC input, on one source specimen. PPS was absent from the observed PDOs and was not tested. Five concatenated-response events and four unanswered auxiliary CC readbacks remain documented as acquisition qualifications. This does not isolate the effect of AC input or establish USB-IF compliance.

All 74 tests completed within the specified screening tolerances. PASS applies to those conditions; it is not a certification, production-quality guarantee or long-term durability judgment.

Test scope, setup and criteria differ between reports; please consult each document. Values are measured at the load side of the connected path and include path losses. The 60-second holds in some source examples do not establish hours-long operation or source-body thermal behavior.

TEMPERATURE MEASUREMENT

Temperature at chosen points. Finding hot spots.

We can discuss temperature measurements for sources, cables and connectors, based on the points and load conditions you wish to examine.

01 / THERMOCOUPLE

4-channel thermocouple thermometer

Thermocouples attached at specified points can measure up to four locations simultaneously.

02 / THERMAL CAMERA

Thermal camera

We can locate surface hot spots with a thermal camera and then measure those points using thermocouples.

The published examples do not include temperature measurements of source bodies, cables or plugs.
Instrument-internal temperatures in the logs are not used to evaluate product heating. Temperature tests are arranged separately, with the object, locations, load and hold time agreed in advance.

01 / SET CONDITIONS

Record the conditions

We document input, load and setup to compare behavior between specimens and conditions.

02 / CHECK ACTUAL OUTPUT

Check actual output

We look beyond test completion, distinguishing the requested conditions from actual measured voltage and current.

03 / KEEP EVIDENCE

Keep traceable evidence

Measurement logs and reproduction steps distinguish confirmed observations from unresolved causes.

Purpose of testing
These are functional evaluations and fault-reproduction tests informed by real-use scenarios. We do not provide USB-IF certification tests or standards-compliance judgments.

About cable evaluation
